Saturday Social Rides

20 mile Easy Pedaller and 30 Mile Cappuccino

20 and 30 Mile Saturday Social Rides

Each Saturday the club supports a shorter distance social ride. Most weeks this will be a 30 mile Cappuccino ride which will leave at 9am from the Leisure Centre.  The only exception to this is that during the summer months, on the the 1st Saturday of each month the ride will instead be a shorter 20 mile Easy Pedaller ride, will leave from Pearce Cycles (rather than the leisure centre) and will start at 10am (rather than 9am).

You can simply turn up on the day but please first double check our Facebook site (or weekly Club email and What's App pages) as in extreme circumstances rides may need to be cancelled or postponed. For more information or to be added to the club’s email distribution list please email Charles, the club’s Ride Organiser on charles_1501@hotmail.com

1. Ludlow Easy Pedaller, 20 Mile Saturday Ride

On the 1st Saturday of each month, from March through to October, the club supports a gentle introductory group ride using a single regular flat route on some of our quietest country lanes.  Organised and led by a few of our more experienced club riders, everyone over the age of 14 is welcome and it is an ideal opportunity for those who have not ridden for some time to get those bikes out of the shed, checked over, lubed and pumped up. Confirmed Saturday dates for the second half of 2026 are July 4, Aug 1, Sept 5 and Oct 3.   Rides tend to last just under 2 hours with most participants covering the 20 mile relatively flat route at an average speed of just under 12mph.  We like to keep everyone together but if numbers are particularly high we may split into a two or more groups. Either way we all get together for some tea and biscuits and a good chat at the finish line courtesy of Pearce Cycles

When and where: 10am from Pearce Cycles, Fishmore Rd, Ludlow (click for additional Pearce Cycles location information)
Distance and difficulty: A 20 mile, gently paced led ride along the beautiful River Corve valley. Quiet undulating local lanes
Leadership and navigation: Regular predefined route supported by experienced local club riders.

Participation information: Club Members and non-Members with basic fitness and a roadworthy bike. Whilst we positively welcome non-club members please note that due to restrictions imposed by our Club Insurance, we are required to limit participation by non-members to 3 occasions (It is easy to join and our annual Membership cost is low). Whilst these rides are aimed at adult riders, those aged 13 to 17 can also attend but all riders under the age of 18 will need a parent/guardian or responsible adult to accompany them and will need to complete a (daily) consent form.

Communication - Whist there will be no need for participants to navigate.  In the event of bad weather rides may need to be cancelled and this will be communicated in advance using the same channels.

2. Ludlow Cappuccino, 30 mile Saturday Ride

New from August 2026, this ride is designed to bridge the gap, between our monthly, 20-mile, Easy Pedaller ride and our regular, 45 to 50 mile Sunday and Thursday rides. This ride will follow one of a selection of carefully considered, scenic local routes and will include a cafe stop either during the ride, or back in Ludlow at the end. Whilst some limited level of hill climbing is likely, the aim is that the overall ride should feel easy going with no fiery edges! Average speed, at about 11-12mph, will be moderate and, as with Easy Pedaller rides, it will be a no drop ride with the group staying together throughout with other riders always stopping and waiting at the top of hills.

When and where - Every Saturday at 09.00 from the Ludlow Leisure Centre except on the first Saturday of each month (between March and October) so as not to conflict with the Easy Pedallers ride which will continue running on that day each month (see above).

Distance and difficulty: 30 mile gently paced ride on some of our quieter local roads

Leadership and navigation: Regular predefined routes supported by experienced local club riders
Participation - Club Members and non-Members with basic fitness and a roadworthy bike.

Ride Leadership - Maxine & Paul Rogers have championed this new 30 mile regular ride and expect to be present on most rides.  Depending on numbers they will be supported by one or more club members drawn from our trained club rider leadership pool. A planned route will be in place every week and they will help lead participants around whilst at the same time ensuring both a suitable pace and that no one gets left behind.

Communication - Whist there will be no need for participants to navigate the summary details of the weeks route (including gpx) will be posted a couple of days beforehand in both the weekly club email and on a new “Cappuccino Ride” WhatsApp community page. In the event of particularly bad weather rides may need to be cancelled and this will be communicated in advance using the same channels.

Favourite Short Training Routes around Ludlow

Our aim is to provide the widest variety of cycle related activities to meet the needs of our local community but currently the majority of cyclists in the club are at an intermediate and above level.  We are keen to encourage new people into the club and are happy to introduce new activities such as our new shorter distance Saturday rides as long as there is a critical mass of demand to justify.

For those who want to work themselves back into cycling more gradually, detailed below are a few short local routes which you might want to give a try (as a group or just solo), together with a brief description as to what we really like about each.

1. Corvedale short

This flattish ride of 27km (ca.17 miles) along the River Corve Valley has less than 200 metres of climbing. This popular route goes out along Corvedale’s quiet and relatively un-potholed lanes, with Wenlock Edge and the Brown Clee in good view ahead of you. It then heads back to Ludlow from Diddlebury on B roads via Ludlow racecourse and a very short stretch of the A49. This route is also used in cycling triathlons and time trials. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39354021

2. Corvedale long

Also relatively flat for South Shropshire, this extends the short ride above to take in quiet lanes through the small villages of Tugford, Holdgate and Stanton Long (all with fine churches) under the Brown Clee Hill. It turns back to Ludlow on B roads through Hungerford, Munslow, Aston Munslow, Diddlebury and Culmington. This route also features the same very short stretch of the A49. It’s 43km (ca.28 miles) long and has 340 metres of ascent. It’s known as the Badminton route in the Club because it could be ridden in the time of a child’s badminton lesson at the Leisure Centre! https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35500980

3. Quiet Ludlow lanes

This 30km (ca.19 miles) route is ideal for those wary of traffic: it uses very quiet lanes and even crosses the A49 by an underpass, although the downside of this is that a very short stretch is a rutted farm track, some of the lanes have grass growing in the middle and there can be potholes anywhere. The route goes north through Priors Halton with fine views of Ludlow Castle and Mortimer Forest. After crossing under the A49 at Bromfield, it meanders north through lanes to the near the southern flank of Wenlock Edge before returning to Ludlow on more quiet lanes and through the pretty village of Stanton Lacy. It has 325 metres of ascent. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40326325
